Meet the author
Before stepping into his current roles, Garrett spent eight years as Executive Director of Tax at a high-net-worth family office with both hedge fund and private equity operations. In this role, he led comprehensive tax compliance and strategic planning initiatives across complex individual and fiduciary structures, including trusts, partnerships, public and private C-corporations, and nonprofit entities. During this time, he gained extensive experience in IRS controversy, cost segregations, R&D credit analysis, and estate planning.
Prior to his time at the family office, Garrett worked for four years at Ernst & Young (EY) in Chicago and San Diego, where he specialized in investment partnerships, including hedge funds, private equity funds, and real estate investments.
Garrett now applies his deep financial services tax expertise to the digital asset sector, advising on cryptocurrency and blockchain-related matters with a particular focus on tax structuring, compliance, and regulatory considerations. He is passionate about the evolution of digital assets and the opportunities they present.
