- Capital Gains Tax: Whenever you sell or swap crypto using Opera Wallet - whether that’s coins, tokens, stablecoins or NFTs - if you make a gain from the transaction, you’ll likely pay Capital Gains Tax on that gain.
- Income Tax: Meanwhile, if you earn new tokens and receive them in your Opera Wallet - for example staking or yield farming rewards - you’ll likely pay Income Tax upon receipt.

Does Opera Wallet report to the IRS?
No. Opera Wallet is a built-in non-custodial wallet that collects no KYC data and does not report to the IRS.
How do I file my Opera Wallet taxes?
You need to report any gains, losses or income from crypto investments to your tax office, generally as part of your annual tax return, including any taxable gains or income from your Opera Wallet investments.
You can do this yourself - but it’s difficult! You’ll need to identify all your taxable transactions, not just for Opera Wallet, but for every wallet and exchange you use, then identify the kind of tax that applies and calculate your gains and losses, as well as any income.

On Opera Wallet
- Open your Opera Wallet app
- Select the blockchain you want to connect - for example, Ethereum
- Select receive
- Copy the public address
On Koinly
- Sign up or log in to your Koinly account
- Head to the wallets page
- Select add new wallet: Opera Wallet
- Select set up auto-sync
- Click connect blockchain
- Search for and select the blockchain you want to connect - for example, Ethereum
- Paste your public address
- Select import
Please note, there are some blockchains - like Bitcoin - where you'll need your xpub key instead. See our guide on exporting your xpub key.
Important
1. When you're syncing Opera Wallet via API, you'll need to repeat these steps for each different coin you're syncing. For example, you would need to sync Ethereum and Bitcoin separately.
2. If you can't find your coin, this means Koinly can't yet auto-sync transactions for that coin yet. We're always working on supporting new coins. so please let us know if this is the case for you and we'll get it added as soon as we can.
3. Opera Wallet doesn't yet feature an option for exporting transaction data via CSV file, so the API integration method is the best way to integrate your Opera Wallet with Koinly.
