What is Kamino Finance?

Kamino Finance is one of Solana's largest DeFi protocols, combining lending, leveraged trading, swaps, vaults, and liquidity management in a single platform.

What is Kamino Finance?

Kamino Finance is a Solana DeFi protocol that brings together several DeFi products under one roof. What began as an automated liquidity management protocol has grown into one of the network's largest platforms, offering lending, borrowing, leveraged trading, token swaps, staking, and yield vaults.

Rather than moving assets between multiple applications, Kamino lets you manage much of your Solana DeFi portfolio from one interface. Its focus is making advanced DeFi strategies easier to access while automating many of the processes that would otherwise require active management.

Who founded Kamino Finance?

Kamino Finance was launched in 2022 by a pseudonymous team of Solana developers. While the founding team has remained largely anonymous, the protocol has grown into one of Solana's largest DeFi projects with contributors spanning engineering, product, risk management, and ecosystem partnerships.

Development is supported by a growing community alongside the Kamino team, with governance increasingly involving KMNO token holders.

How does Kamino Finance work?

Kamino combines several DeFi primitives into a single protocol.

For token swaps, Kamino uses a meta-aggregator that searches liquidity across Solana's leading decentralized exchanges, including protocols like Jupiter, Orca, Raydium, and Meteora. Rather than relying on one exchange, it automatically routes trades through the most efficient combination of liquidity sources to minimize slippage and improve pricing.

Its lending markets operate similarly to other decentralized money markets. Depositors supply supported assets into lending pools and earn variable interest, while borrowers lock collateral to borrow other cryptocurrencies.

Many of Kamino's products build on these same lending markets. Leveraged positions, automated vaults, and liquidity strategies all use the protocol's lending infrastructure behind the scenes, allowing you to access more advanced strategies without manually managing multiple positions.

How do I use Kamino Finance?

To get started, connect a compatible Solana wallet and fund it with supported assets such as SOL, USDC, JitoSOL, mSOL, or other supported collateral.

From there, you can choose from several different products depending on whether you want to trade, earn yield, borrow funds, or manage leveraged positions.

Kamino Finance swaps

Kamino Swaps lets you exchange Solana tokens directly from your wallet.

Instead of relying on a single liquidity pool, Kamino's routing engine compares prices across multiple decentralized exchanges before selecting the most efficient execution path. This helps reduce slippage, particularly for larger trades.

Kamino Finance earn

Earn allows you to deposit supported assets into Kamino's lending markets.

Once deposited, your assets become available for borrowers, and you receive variable interest based on supply and demand. You can withdraw your assets whenever liquidity is available.

Kamino Finance borrow

Borrow lets you unlock liquidity without selling your crypto.

Deposit supported collateral such as SOL, mSOL, JitoSOL, USDC, or other eligible assets, then borrow another supported cryptocurrency against your position. Interest rates vary depending on market conditions, and maintaining sufficient collateral is essential to avoid liquidation.

Kamino Finance multiply

Multiply provides one-click leveraged exposure to supported assets.

Instead of manually borrowing, swapping, and redepositing collateral, Kamino automates the process. This allows you to increase exposure to assets like SOL or liquid staking tokens while managing the underlying lending transactions automatically.

Leverage increases both potential gains and potential losses, so you should understand the risks before you invest.

Kamino Finance liquidity

Kamino Liquidity automates concentrated liquidity management.

Rather than manually adjusting liquidity positions as market prices move, Kamino continuously rebalances eligible positions to help maximize fee generation while reducing the amount of ongoing management required.

Kamino Finance rewards

Kamino Finance rewards are currently in Season 5, with rewards able to be claimed until August this year. You can check eligibility and your rewards in the app, but if you’ve used Kamino products, you likely have KMNO rewards to claim.

Kamino Finance staking

You can stake KMNO tokens, both to vote in governance proposals and to earn points related to the Kamino Rewards scheme.

Kamino Finance earn vaults

Earn Vaults are automated yield strategies that allocate deposited assets across Solana markets.

Instead of manually monitoring interest rates, the vaults dynamically optimize capital allocation based on available yields and market conditions. This makes them a hands-off option for investors looking to generate passive income, with balanced, conservative, and aggressive products available depending on your risk tolerance.

Which wallets work with Kamino Finance?

Kamino supports most major Solana wallets, including:

  • Phantom

  • Solflare

  • Leap Wallet

  • Trust Wallet

Is Kamino Finance safe?

Kamino is widely regarded as one of Solana's leading DeFi protocols and has undergone multiple independent smart contract audits. The protocol also employs risk management measures such as conservative collateral requirements, isolated lending markets for higher-risk assets, automated liquidations, and continuous monitoring of protocol health.

Kamino has not experienced a major protocol exploit resulting in widespread user losses. However, it has occasionally paused or adjusted certain markets during periods of extreme volatility to protect the protocol.

As with every DeFi protocol, risks remain. Smart contract vulnerabilities, liquidation risk, volatile asset prices, oracle failures, and phishing attacks can all lead to losses.

What are the benefits of using Kamino Finance?

Some of Kamino's biggest advantages include:

  • Access lending, borrowing, swaps, liquidity, and leverage from one platform.

  • Mega-aggregated swaps help find competitive prices across Solana.

  • Automated liquidity management reduces manual position maintenance.

  • Variable lending yields on a wide range of supported assets.

  • One-click leveraged positions simplify complex DeFi strategies.

  • Supports many of Solana's leading liquid staking tokens.

  • Automated Earn Vaults provide passive yield opportunities.

  • Regular rewards campaigns.

What are the risks of using Kamino Finance?

Like any DeFi protocol, Kamino also carries risks:

  • Smart contract vulnerabilities.

  • Liquidation risk when borrowing or using leverage.

  • Variable lending and borrowing interest rates.

  • Cryptocurrency market volatility.

  • Oracle failures could impact collateral valuations.

  • Leveraged products amplify both gains and losses.

  • Third-party liquid staking assets introduce additional protocol risk.

  • Wallet security remains your responsibility.

What is KMNO token?

KMNO is Kamino Finance's governance and ecosystem token.

The token launched in 2024 following one of Solana's largest DeFi airdrops. KMNO allows holders to vote on governance proposals covering protocol parameters, treasury management, incentives, and future development.

Beyond governance, KMNO also plays an important role in Kamino's seasonal rewards program, where active users can earn allocations based on their participation across the protocol.

  • Circulating supply: 5 billion

  • Primary utility: Governance and ecosystem incentives.

  • All-time high (ATH): $0.24

  • All-time low (ATL): $0.13

Did Kamino Finance have an airdrop?

Yes. Kamino launched KMNO through a community airdrop in 2024, rewarding users based on their historical activity across the protocol.

The protocol has continued rewarding active participants through its ongoing Kamino Seasons program. Under the current Season 5 campaign, you can earn additional points by supplying assets, borrowing, using Multiply, participating in eligible vaults, and interacting with supported products. These points may qualify for future KMNO distributions, although no future airdrops are guaranteed.

Many early recipients are also subject to token vesting schedules, with allocations unlocking over time according to the protocol's distribution plan.

How to buy Kamino Finance on Solana

If you already own SOL or another Solana token, you can swap directly into KMNO using decentralized exchanges such as Jupiter, Orca, Raydium, or Kamino's own swap interface.

Alternatively, KMNO is listed on several centralized cryptocurrency exchanges, allowing you to purchase it with fiat before transferring it to a compatible Solana wallet.

Kamino vs. Jupiter vs. Raydium

Although all three protocols are major parts of Solana DeFi, they serve very different purposes.
