Matthew Walrath founded Crypto Tax Made Easy after building his own crypto accounting systems in 2017. When the 2020 ‘DeFi Summer’ made crypto tax significantly more complex, he developed a framework to track and reconcile transactions across blockchains, protocols, and wallets.
Seeing how many investors struggled with reporting these activities, Matthew launched a course on using Koinly to manage crypto tax reporting. The demand from students for direct reviews led to the creation of Crypto Tax Made Easy in 2021.
Since then, Matthew has been engaged by multiple CPA firms to train their staff in digital asset accounting, contributed to expert witness teams in crypto litigation, and overseen reviews of tens of millions of transactions for clients worldwide.
